Description
Isla Real is reached from Marina Santa Cruz, and the crossing earns its keep: the route runs beneath Fuerte San Fernando, the eighteenth-century fort set to guard the Bocachica channel, so the fortress gets a panoramic viewing from the water before you ever set foot on Tierra Bomba.
The shape of the day is fixed and that is the appeal. One departure, 10:00 AM. One return, 5:00 PM. Close to seven hours in between, with no slots to choose and no timetable to track. A cocktail is waiting when you land, a towel comes with it, and the club’s facilities are open to you for as long as you are there.
Lunch is a real choice rather than a token one — the island’s typical plate, grilled chicken breast, pasta carbonara, fish sancocho or a club sandwich, each served with a soft drink. Saturdays and Sundays bring a live DJ.
